Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 1 – Recap and Review

Beloved series finally got its second season and if you are a manga reader, you know it will be a good one!

Lets dive into Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 episode 1!

Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 episode 1 – Recap

Season 2 of Jujutsu Kaisen begins with a young Suguru Geto exorcising and absorbing a cursed spirit. During this process, he reflects on his work and the work of jujutsu sorcerers.

Following a brief introduction to the mission, Mei and a young Utahime enter the mission house and split up to research the residence more effectively. However, they unintentionally end up running in circles, realizing it’s the cursed spirit’s barrier and its means of killing its victims. To escape, they devise a plan to run in opposite directions, making the area too large for the spirit to control, causing the barrier to break.

After escaping the barrier, Utahime encounters Saturo Gojo, who playfully teases her for being scared. With their combined efforts, they easily overpower the revealed spirit. They discover that two days have passed while they were trapped in the barrier, and Gojo, carefree as ever, hadn’t even addressed the veil issue, resulting in a scolding.

Gojo’s and Geto’s Mission

Later, while playing basketball, Geto and Gojo argue about the veil. Gojo claims that looking after weak humans is exhausting, while Geto argues that jujutsu exists to protect non-sorcerers. Masamichi interrupts their argument with a new mission assignment.

Their mission is to escort and erase the star Plasma Vessel, a girl compatible with Tengen. Tengen possesses an immortality cursed technique that rewrites his body and will. If the girl assimilates with him, Tengen will lose his ability to supply power to the jujutsu schools, society, and the assistant supervisor’s barrier techniques. Every 500 years, Tengen seeks out the Star Plasma Vessel to reset his cursed technique to zero.

They are not the only one after the girl, with Curse User Group Q and Time Vessel Association having the same goal. Assimilation is set to happen in two days, and Gojo and Geto must protect her until then.

Geto arrives at the girl’s door, but an explosion occurs, resulting in her jumping off the building. Geto rescues the girl and realizes this was a stunt caused by a member of Cursed Group Q. A member confronts Satoru, which plans to show him no mercy.

Meanwhile, on a skyscraper, two men discuss the situation. One of them asks his ally, Fushiguro, if he wants to participate in the Star Plasma Vessel scheme. The episode concludes with Fushiguro gladly accepting the offer.

Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 episode 1 – Review

We get to see younger versions of Satoru and Geto with their season one and Jujutsu Kaisen 0 film counterparts. It’s a fascinating opportunity to witness the divergent paths these characters have taken and explore the driving forces behind their choices.

Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 episode 1 ignites excitement, particularly during Utahime and Mei’s exploration of the presidential residence. The sequence creates a haunting atmosphere with its intense and eerie vibes, as the characters navigate their surroundings. Mappa’s masterful use of exaggerated camera angles breathes life into the scene, delivering an expressive and visually pleasing experience.

Although the episode features incredible cinematography, there were moments when it was difficult to absorb important content. In addition, certain character designs appeared mildly jarring at moments.

Despite these minor issues, the episode sets a good foundation for the exciting developments to come. As a fan, I am very excited about the future Jujutsu Kaisen!
